Re: johnson 3hp jw-18r

JW-18 is a 1963 johnson. It's a 5.28 CID engine that makes it's 3hp at 4000 rpms. Originally it used Champion J6J plugs, but they've been replaced by J6C plugs. Fuel/oil mix is 24:1, and it has babitt bearings throughout. (Some people here recomend running later 3hp's at this heavier mix. I'm inclined to agree considering how they are infrequently used).
There's a latch thing around the base of the swivel that locks the tilt down when the engine is turned 90 degrees or so. Look at just beneath the transom clamps at the seam with the exhaust leg.
The 3 (or 4hp) 5.28CID Johnson/Evinrude is perhaps the best small hp engine ever made. :)
