i found this johnson seahorse 3 hp in a garage that belonged to my dads late friend. looks almost new. not hardly a scratch on it. sn # is jw-17 which my research shows to be a 1963 i think. tank was empty. gonna go out and see if i can get it started. anybody know what its worth? fuel mixture is 24:1??

So solly grasshopper, but you are wrong...the little Johnson J's 3 hp's are well liked and well valued by those of us who appreciate old motors. I would give you a C-note for it in running condition...and several others on the forum would too. Ben_fishn, 24:1 is a safe fuel/oil mix for it...can't remember when OMC went to a blanket 50:1 recommendation, may have been 63 or 64. Check www.aomci.org for a club/chapter in your area that may be having a summer swap meet...find it a good home with someone who wants it.

thanks for the input guys. im not looking to get rid of it especially since the lady gave it to me. by the way....started her up today. she runs good. may try it out in my coleman crawdad this weekend. :D

Be careful, make sure you have good spray (waterflow) out of the holes midway up the leg.

If not, don't run it until you replace the water pump, which takes 15 minutes and $15.00

I hope you caught my sarcasm.;) I own several of those. They are truly little gems.
