Sorry, I posted this under one of the current topics. Actually did not realize it until I did it and realized it should be a new topic!

Maybe you guys can answer this one. I am also looking at the Johnson 140 4stroke vs. the 150 2 stroke. I have a 25ft GW Ssilfish. Will the 140 be enough to push it for many years to come? (My current evinrudes are '86's.) I ask because it looks to me that the 140 is the same engine as the 90 and the reliability may be a factor? Not sure which way to go. If I was not clear, it's a twin engine setup.
Thanks

Not exactly sure what you mean by performance. Fuel useage isn't too bad, but I've never formally checked it. Speed is OK for me, cruise about 15-17 knots at 3k rpm. I usually keep the RPM's down because the engines are getting tired!
I have no real problem with the current feel of the engines. If I need more speed I can get 23-25 knots at around 3800, only if it's calm though, I don't love getting thrown around!
Thanks in advance!

Hi, Bumbles.

You will probably not even notice a slightly slower hole shot and a couple of mph less at WOT.

But you will notice quiet, no smoke, no smell. Instant one-time starts without fuss, sputter, koff. Will use about half the fuel of the big V6s.

Driving EFI 4 stroke outboards is as simple as driving a car.

Good luck. :)

"I ask because it looks to me that the 140 is the same engine as the 90 and the reliability may be a factor?"

The 140 and the 90 are totally different outboards. It is the 90 and the 115 that share a common engine (and both are good). The reliability of the 140 has been excellent, and I would certainly trust it over the 150 2-stroke. The Johnson 140 4-stroke is the same as a Suzuki DF 140.

"Speed is OK for me, cruise about 15-17 knots at 3k rpm.....If I need more speed I can get 23-25 knots at around 3800"

Expect the Johnson/Suzuki 140 to run up to 6200 rpm. So it looks like you'll have plenty of speed and power to spare. :)

bumbles,

I answered your question in another thread. Anyway, I didn't realize you were replacing twins.

The John/Suzy 140's will keep you smiling as you pass by those gas pumps. :D

Not to mention, smokeless with fiddle free instant starting.

Enjoy!!

Just an FYI, the 4 stroke Johnson 90/115/140 are the exact same engines

Johson 90/115/140 4 strokes are not the same engines. The 90 and 115 are similar, the 140 is different. Displacement of 140 is different as well as gear ratio. There is a lot of information on suzukimarine.com on these engines. The models are DF90/DF115/DF140.
