Alright iboat buddies, I need some wiring help for my 40hp Johnson. I bought the motor and the wiring harness separately and when the harness arrived the ignition panel wasn't connected to the wiring.
So, I've numbered the wires and letter labeled the posts on the panels. I did a search on the internet for the connections to the ignition switch, the posts on the switch are labeled S, I and B. So from that I know the red wire (#5 on my photo) goes on the B post. The purple wire (#7 on my photo) goes to post I and a yellow wire goes on post S. The first problem is that I don't have a yellow wire, so which numbered wire goes on the S post of the ignition switch?
Where do these wires go:
Black #1 (this wire seems to be capped off, so I don't think it was connected to anything)
Brown#2
White #3
Purple with white stripe #4
Purple #6
Purple #8 (Connected to HOT light on panel)
Purple #9 (Connected to CHOKE switch on panel)
There is also a post on the CHOKE switch (I've marked A) that needs a wire.
I'm fairly certain of where the red battery wire connects to the motor, if someone could confirm that for me that would be great.
I think that I found where the black battery wire connects, just need a confirmation for that as well. If that's not where it goes please let me know where it goes.
