I have a 1988 48 spl and when I take it out it runs at about half speed and at times it runs well .At idle it runs perfect all of the time but whenever I want to increase speed it just will not do right except at times. The spark timing is on the money.I just put a new electrical conversion kit in it (a new charge coil, new power pack and new pulsar coil .I checked the reed valves 4 times and there is no daylight they are seated perfect.I cleaned the carbs. but the top carb spits a little gas out of the high speed fixed jet only at idle whenever I give it the gas in the tank some of the gas in the top carb seems to not be taken into the crankcase instead it is blown out through the front. My coil is two coils in one and it tests good on the ohm meter. Could this be possibly my problem ? someone please help

Howdy, Doghunter.

Sounds like you are dropping a cylinder intermittently. It could also be "four cycling", a sign of too rich mixture.

I am suspicious of the float level setting on the top carb. I suggest rechecking both carbs for float sticking and/or debris in the bowl.

Good luck. :)
