How does shift rod disconnect, I have parts and service manual, both show nut at top of shift rod, to disconnect, cannot find nut. Diagram of parts manual shows nut under powerhead, with no excess to nut.

Joe Reeves, you have the gearcase seal for this engine?

You must remove the powerhead to access the shift rod nuts. Not as daunting a task as it may seem. Simply remove the seven screws that hold the powerhead in place, plus disconnect the fuel lines and any carb knobs that protrude through the front of the cowling pan. Be prepared to replace the powerhead to exhaust housing gasket.

Also, take note of the order of the various gaskets, spring, o-rings and washers on the top of the driveshaft as they must be reassembled in the same order. Be sure to grease the top splines of the driveshaft before reassembling the powerhead....

- Scott
