Hello folks.
Just by pure chance I have bought a 1963 model CD-20 Johnson that has never been used.
It has stood at the back of a garage since purchased and left for 49 years.
It must have been run in the Canadian factory as there are slight traces of carbon on the piston crowns.
The original coils were cracked so I have replaced them plus w/pump impeller, quite a job as the shift shaft is solid
on this model so power head has to come off to drop lower unit.
Right two questions, can diaphragms for the original fuel pump still be bought?
had a look in the usual places but cant find any, the pump is solid alloy with no plastic parts.
Second question, shall I start it?
Would you?
I am now over 60 years old, so do I use it - or just look at it from time to time?
What you folks think?

Well, I still like to use my johnson.
Looking at it from time to time is no fun. :D

Re: Johnson 5 1/2 hp

I am a collector, and search high and low for antique outboards. I dont think I have ever found one not run, no matter what the seller claims. Id be willing to bet your motor has indeed ran, many times. They do not carbon on the piston domes from a test tank run. Can you post a pic?

Tune the motor up, and enjoy it. That is what I would do.

EDIT: Got to thinking, I have found a few unused motors. They were military and still in the boxes, but could not come to terms with the seller.
