Johnson 50 blowing Solenoid fuse?

I have an 81 Johnson 50hp and had to install new electronics (coils, solenoid, control box) due to overheating issue. My key stopped turning engine over during these installs. Thought it was switch but turned out to be blown fuse in line between ignition and solenoid. Replaces it started boat a dozen times or so with the key then went to turn engine over and it turned for half a second and quit. Went back and fuse is blown again. What all could cause this fuse to blow during cranking, or how may I track down the culprit? I do not see anything obvious. This has happened both times shortly after I put the cover back on my remote where my ignition is located. Thanks for any info!

Those fuses blow when the battery power is shorted to ground. The evidence points to a short in the remote. Look for the yellow/red (solenoid) wire touching the metal case of the remote. If the purple wire shorts to the metal it can also blow the fuse.

Thanks for the info. I think you may be right. I noticed that the ignition switch is loose in the remote and when I turned the key I may have been pushing the connections up against the inside of the casing without knowing. I insulated it for now until I get a new switch to see if it blows anymore fuses and have started about a dozen times today with no problem. Thanks again!
