Help. I have an older but reliable 50 HP Johnson tiller that pops out of reverse when I remove my hand from the shift lever. I have heard that this may be the clutch dog or possible the gears need to be realigned.

Is there any way a novice can determine the problem?

If not any suggestions for a reliable service shop in central Minnesota.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Johnson 50 Tiller

You can probably buy a Service Manual (OEM) and adjust the linkage yourself for a lot less time and bux than getting a wrench to do it for you, Esoxguy.

That is what I would try before anything else.

You will need the model number to get the manual and we would need the model number to advise you how to do it.

Good luck. :)

That's a 1987 engine, Esoxguy.

Try kencook.com for a reprint of the original Service manual if there isn't one on ebay.

Good luck. :)
