My engine, above, has not started properly in its recent history. I thought cylinders were flooding. Refurbished the carburettors, replaced a damaged fuel line (from the VRO fuel pump to the primer solenoid). Today, on a hose and muffs, it started, no choke, open throttle. But it very soon revved out of control, wouldn't return to an idle, engine getting very hot, and wouldn't switch off , by kill switch, or by turning ignition to off. Scary few minutes! Stopped only when I starved it of fuel. I think this is re-run (dieseling). I'm going to look for gaps, cracks, holes in fuel lines, vaccuum hoses. I may change the fuel pump from VRO, to the simpler (oil premixed) fuel pump. Also, I've not successfully checked the timing, which I must learn to do. Any advice from anybody, I don't want the same thing to happen again.

Timing does not go out of adjustment on these !----Except when flywheel key is sheared.----Check the key.-----Are both carburetor throttle plates closed at idle position ?----Do both open at the same time ?

Thanks, I'll check those things before other things, as soon as I can.

Are you pushing key in while cranking it over ?-----Is the VRO in service and tested for oil output ?-----Replaced water pump impeller every 5 years ?----Post the compression test numbers.

Checked a few things; flywheel key O.K., throttle plates open and close, cables all look good. Compression test next week. Refitting carbs, checking for loose screws etc.

I say it all the time.-----These motors are very easy to diagnose.----If you decide to go to a simple premix pump ask for the correct process BEFORE rushing out to buy a pump.

Thanks for your replies. Done a few things; checked compression-150 on both cylinders; found a lot of things to tighten/reconnect on carbs and fuel lines. Will attach water hoses and muffs and then start her up.
