I can run the motor using a clamshell. It idles and runs up great. But in the lake when you hit the throttle it starts out like it wants to run up but then it bogs down. I think possibly fuel starvation. New gas tank and line. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you all in advance for any help. I love this boat and want to get it on the lake with my granddaughters soon.

Look at the plugs and see if there soak and wet. If so, float or high speed jet problem. If the purpose was to change hoses because old or rotted, Chances are a piece of garbage may have been pick up in the high speed circuit. Post back and let us know.

The new tank and hose was because I didn't want any gas problems. Is there a way to clean the high speed circuit?
Thanks. alot.

Re: Johnson 50hp bogs under load

Did you check the plugs to see if there soaked? 2nd?. yes. have to remove carb/s and disassemble. soak in berrymans carb and parts cleaner overnight, rinse with fresh water and blow-dry with clean compressed air. (carb/s Overhaul basically). But before you rip in to them, I would do some further investigating. If spark plugs are not wet, try spraying some fuel/oil mix in to the carb/s and see if it picks up! Post back and let us know!

I tried this and the plugs were dry. I am not comfortable playing with the carbs, so I think that I will need a mechanic. I will update you all.
Thanks.

Re: Johnson 50hp bogs under load

took it to a mech. he changed out the sparkplugs and cleaned the carbs. He said that it ran great. Took it to the Lake on Sunday. It wouldn't even start. I tried everything. Finely gave up. Went back to the mech. on monday. They found that the fuel had been installed backwards. After the switched it back it ran fine. No where do you think that the line got switched?? I have learned a new lesson. Double check everything and never trust a mech. LOL

That's why they put an arrow on the primer bulb so you know which way the gas is supposed to flow.

Thanks. Another lesson that I didn't need. It made for a bad boating trip.. Why the mech. didn't do it right the first time is beyond me. What else do I need to learn before I can simply run my boat on the lake? I should be able to trust the mech. Oh well, maybe next time..... lol

adjusted the connection from the fuel tank to the motor. Sometimes it wouldn't snap on, so the engine under load would suck air. I also replaced the fuel line from the connector to the fuel pump. Runs great now. So much for high paid mechanics.

everybody gets in a hurry sometimes and mucks something up. I would not have paid him for the second trip as it was their screwup to start with. enjoy the rest of the season.
