I'm prepping my "New to me" boat and engine for this season.
Some may remember helping me out before on this engine. I appreciate ALL of it!

I'm about to pick up where I left off last season, in tuning her up. Haven't splashed her yet..

Part of what I want to know is the weight of the engine.
Mainly, because I want to be able to calculate the base weight of the boat engine combo, so I know what I have left in pounds I can put in the boat on an outing.. (Persons/gear/etc...)

The capacity plate states max weight the boat can carry. My understanding is that I have to include the weight of the engine as part of the gear/persons etc.. I can put on the boat.

I have a 1971 Johnson 50hp. 50ESL71. It's a 20", so Long Shaft If I'm not mistaken.

Best guess upon web searches, faq's here, etc.. is somewhere around 150-200lbs.
My service manual doesn't have the dry weight, and I don't have the owners manual.

Anyone have info on the weight better than what I can "guesstimate"??
I appreciate it in advance!

Calculating the weight right down to the absolute pound really isn't what they had in mind with the spec plate. Common sense has to be used when load any boat with equipment. If it states 600 pounds, then don't put five people in the boat. JMHO

Ok.. Thanks...
I'll stick with 188 - 200 then..

I guess that part of detail comes from my pilot training... I need to know the weight of passengers, baggage etc.. so I know how much fuel I can take on if not full tanks etc.....
Have to be pretty precise for the airplane, and boating is new to me, so it's just habit I guess... LOL
