Hi, I recently bought a Johnson 50hp from 85 - The guy selling it to me, told me it is NOT unusal that the uper seal, will in fact seal properly after a couple of years, resulting in water getting into the block and breaking the bearings. Is this true ? Is there anyway to to prevent or notice this before, bad noise or etc etc ? If I understand it right, you can´t inspect this seal easily. Any help would help me greatly. And thanks guys for all the help in my previous topics.

regards from Sweden
Matt

Are you sure you are talking about the upper crank seal? Think about it -- if there is water up there you're in "deep" trouble.
Good luck!
