Johnson 55 3cyl no spark

Hi Guys

Im a vintage merc guy & not real familiar with electronic ignition, but my buddy picked up a Johnson 55 3cyl hydro-electric shift loop charged motor

firstly where do I find a serial to determine the year?

great compression, no spark , when I open & close the throttle arm with the key ON there is a spark thats shorting from the coil wire to the stator (see photo)
whats the name of this ignition part with the
plug & coil wires under the flywheel/stator
I suspect this may be the issue of no spark

that looks exactly like my old 1968 johnson elect shift 55!

It's arching , is the wire going to it frayed?
