This 1995 Seahorse starts easily, and throttle can advance while in neutral. To shift into gear, it must be at idle speed, and once in gear, the throttle can no longer be advanced, so it runs in gear at idle speed only. This is the same when the engine is not running,,,,,can have in gear or throttle advanced but not both.
Is there I'm missing here? This is all while on the trailer. Shifter is separate from the throttle lever.
I'd appreciate any input as to what I can do about this.

Best to have a look inside the throttle / shift control box.----From where I sit there appears to be an issue with the interlock mechanism.

the flat lever on the controller is for warming the motor in neutral once you shift the controller in forward you continue to push the controller forward to throdle the motor up

You do realize that the one lever is for warmup only !----Moving the big lever first shifts it.---Then as you move that further the speed increases.----And you should not be putting this motor in gear if motor is not running.----Or when it is not running the propeller MUST be turned in order to avoid damage to the control box.

have you used this motor before
It's been awhile. I only used it a few times several years ago. I was reluctant to haul it down to the harbor to try it out. Now I know. and I will
'give it a go'.
Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like Gino is putting it into gear o.k., but then is trying to use the "warm up" lever, to get more throttle with that, instead of pushing the gas lever forward farther, doesn't it?

Gino, once you put it into gear with the lever sticking up, just push that same lever forward more to go faster. The more you push it forward, the faster you will go up to the motor's maximum.
