Re: johnson 5ohp has no power

I am a mechanic but no a marine mechanic but basic principles are the same. I am understanding you have a key switch on a console. If this is so, power much route through your switch then to the motor. I am also understanding that the engine will not turn over (starter will not energize) Basics,
Check battery connections, any Circuit breakers at the battery itself (little gray boxes with black or red buttons) reset them.
Check power to switch with multi-meter
Check power in and power out with key switch turned to start. if good got to starter solenoid located on engine. check for power from battery to solenoid. shold have some 12 to 13.86 volts dc.

try this and see

Look for a small inline fuse in your engine compartment. It will be a little black bulge. Inside it is a 20 amp fuse that I bet is blown.
