Johnson 6 HP Remote Control

I have a 2005 Johnson 9.9 4 stroke mounted as a kicker. I have a separate throttle control and the steering is linked to the primary engine.<br /><br />The 9.9 is enough weight (105lb) to pull the corner of the boat down more than I am comfortable with.<br /><br />The Johnson 4-5-6 HP 4 stroke all weigh 55 lbs and I believe 6 hp would be enough anyway.<br /><br />All of this work has been done recently and I hate to trash the throttle setup but the 6 HP Johnson is not available for remote control.<br /><br />The Johnson help guy mentioned some after market control linkage by Berkeley to adapt the 6HP tiller for remote control but I have been unable to find anything about them.<br /><br />Any help or ideas appreciated.

Hi Dave, welcome aboard.<br /><br />There is a remote control adaptor kit for 6hp 4 strokes. The PN is 444517...about $45. You can get them or order them from any John/Rude dealer.<br /><br />The kit contains the stuff you need to connect the control cables to the engine.

That is pretty much how I ended up here.<br /><br />My dealer called his Johnson rep and was told that the adaptor was not available for 6hp.<br /><br />The BRP website says the 6HP is tiller with (Remote Opt. Acc.). The Johnson site says the 6HP is tiller only.<br /><br />I found a number and called the Johnson consumer tech support. The guys initial reaction was that it was no problem at all. I asked if he could supply me with a part number and when he tried to find one he realized that it was not to be found.<br /><br />He determined that the 4-5-6 HPs are purchased from Suzuki and they don't provide any conversion.<br /><br />Bummer

Dave....what year is the 6hp?<br /><br />EDIT: Just did another search for what ya' need. Unfortunately, the OB accessories only go to 04' so if your engine is 05, I can't tell. I'll give a look tomorrow at the shop and see what I can come up with. But all the years I scanned for 6hp 4strokes all give the same PN for the adaptor kit.....weired.

Dave, here is what I found in my 06' P&A book..<br /><br />Adaptor kits for 6hp 4 stroke 97 >99 PN444509.<br /><br />Kits for 6hp 4 stroke 00 >04 PN444517.<br /><br />There are no kits shown for 05 >06 models.

This would have been a 05 but last night I moved the batteries over to the other side to see if it would help any.<br /><br />Much to my surprise the boat now sits level even though the batteries probably don't outweigh the 9.9 and they are not much more than 12 inches from center. There must be some forces at work here that I don't understand but I'll take it.<br /><br />Thanks for doing research on the part numbers.<br /><br />This is a great site for someone like myself with no background in boating.<br /><br />DaveJ
