Greetings!

I took the suggested info for new posters to heart and searched the available archives, and did'nt find the answer. Here is my question: Is it practical to convert a Johnson 6 hp Sea Horse, model# 6RL73B, Serial# J4928389, long-shaft to a short-shaft? Keep in mind this outboard is in very good condition and was'nt used much. I think the motor is a 1973 model. (it looks more recent than that)
To those who reply, thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard M Acevedo.

Practical only if you can locate the parts without spending a fortune.

For what its worth, small longshaft motors usually bring a decent price as a new one will cost quite a bit, and few manufacturers are offering them new these days.

You may be able to sell your current longshaft motor and buy a much newer shortshaft motor for about the same price.

i have a 1969 6hp short shaft midsection in my garage takling up space. its identical to yours. you can have it for the cost of shipping if you want it!free

just pay shipping. then you could swap the power head and locate a short shaft lower unit on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50439&item=4524598735&rd=1

simple, really !
