Johnson 60 Over charging?

Hi All <br /> I have a Johnson 60 over chaging it seems 17v at idle, can anyone help me on this ,have changed the rectifier no change.

Rectifier is just to convert AC to DC.. If it has a regulator/rectifier, it still may show 17 volts, but the amps may be very little. It will also put out what the battery demands, so you may want to check the batteries and condition, make sure they are healthy. A bad grond can cause high charge-rates too...

I had the same problem on a suzi 85hp and it turned out to be the earth strap. I replaced it and it brought it back down to 13.5v-14v
