Two cylinder motor, or 3 cylinder, or V-4? There are lots of 60hp Johnsons

Look On the head for a soft plug(silver disc) with some numbers.
Depending on the year Before 89 motors are rated at 5,000 89 5,500.
Most shoot for about 5,500 and 6,000 respectively.
I have no info after 89.Problem does sound like a fuel delivery problem.
Does a little choke help? When it picks up does it seem like a switch turned on? Get a spark tester and check for a good strong spark.jump 3/8 inch with a rich blue snap. You could run the motor for a few minutes and then feel the plugs carefully , see if one feels cooler than the rest.

hi again done spark test already all ok. choke does not do anything. it is as if the powers there but sumthing stopping it. it will fly of 2 or 3 mins then die down again. think it must be the fuel not getting in. think the outboard is older than 1989. wot do u think. thanks again.:

Silver disk on the top of the powerhead has numbers stamped into it, it looks like a frost plug. Wot is wide open throttle, what is what.

You probably have a 1970 or 1970 motor. They had a lot of ignition problems and often would barely run. The very first thing you should check is the compression to make sure you have a healthy motor to work with.

After that, look at the spark plugs. Any droplets of water on any of them? Let's hope not.

What kind of spark plugs are they? If it still has the original surface gap plugs, throw them as far as you can and replace them with L77JC4 or QL77JC4. That alone has made many of those motors run.

If that doesn't fix it, it is time to check out the ignition system. Breaker points and reverse cut-out ring first. They are under the flywheel. All that stuff has to be clean, no metal dust from a worn out cut-out ring. The cut-out ring must be lubricated very sparingly where it rubs on the shaft with a bit of EP grease. Points must be set at Exactly .009" (.010" for new ones). Distributor cap and rotor must be clean. Spark plug wires must not arc out at the towers.

As I mentioned, those motors gave running problems when new and if they aren't in perfect shape they won't run now either.
