Did I do something wrong?
Anyone??
I have a 1972 Johnson 65. New power head some years, but not many hours ago. Yes! With the electric shift! Who needs Reverse anyhow?
But my problem is cooling. The buzzer goes off, only at high rpm, and it is too loud to ignore. So, I slow down to a fast idle, and it goes off in about a minute.
If it is just me in the boat, I can get up on plane, and run just fast enough to hold plane, without the siren.
So, I pull off the lower unit. Water pump looks good.
I'm thinking clogged passages. I Remove the thermostat & cover, connect the garden hose to the water tube, and turn it on slow.
Soon water is dribbling out from the outer exhaust housing. None from the thermostat. I open the tap, and water is coming out everywhere. Some from the thermostat, most through the housing. I did not see any gunk come out.
Water tube is tight.
Is this right? I'm thinking some water should be coming through the inner exhaust, but that most should go through thermostat.
Is there anyone out there that understands how the water passages run, and how I should proceed?
