johnson 6hp water pump problems

hey all just bought a johnson 6 hp and i am overwhelmed by questions. i have it running but i am not getting water through it. i have no idea where the water pump is and the only thing related to it i can find is the thermostat. the model number is 6R-71G if someone could tell me what year this is and where to find and replace/repair the water pump on the motor it would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hey dusty....it's a 1971. The water pump sets ontop of the lower unit. You will have to remove the lower unit to access it. <br /><br />If you want to do yourself a large favor, get a service manual. OEM's preferred. Google up Ken Cook Co., Marine.com or outboard wizard. They all will sell you a reprint of the original service manual. Generic manuals can be bought here on iboats....see the bottom of the page.
