johnson 6r70b not getting full power

hi all. i bought a 1970 6hp johnson seahorse with about 30 hours of use on it, everything was in pretty good condition, I replaced the plugs and impeller and everthing seemed fine. I took it out on my 10' jon boat a few times and at first when i got to about half throttle turning it further would have no change. Then I took it out again and it ran great. the next time it broke down on me due to some carbon build up i didnt get the first time around. I cleaned that out and now its back to not having any change after half throttle. Any help on why i am not getting full power would be greatly appriciated thanks

You should check both plugs for spark when your having the problem. If that proves fine ( and I kind of think it will) I would recommend a carb. cleaning and new kit. Sounds like your high speed jet is plugged up. I would also recommend you go to the top of this forum and look at the Top Secret File and read the different articles in it. thanks for the quick replies. i already cleaned the carb but I didnt change any kit. just curios as to where to get the kit.
