Johnson 70 vro driveshaft o-ring question

i removed my lower unit to check my water pump and noticed that an o-ring was left on the housing. im not sure where its supposed to go. it looks like its the driveshaft o-ring part #0326649. i looked on my manual and the internet but it doesnt show exactly where it goes. does it go on top of the driveshaft or does it go in the housing grommet?

If there's a machined groove at the bottom of the driveshaft splines, that's where an O ring goes. You can confirm by looking at the parts list on-line.

ok here is what im looking at. heres the o-ring. where does it go?

See the grove under the splines in pictures 1 & 5, thats where the drive shaft o-ring goes.
