Hey there!
I recently swapped out my 1977 mechanical shifted lower unit for a slightly newer one from about an 84, or so. Everything went together "like buttah" but when I went to hook up the shift linkage, the rod seems to be too high, do I need to screw it in deeper, or swap out to my old shifter rod? I ammasking first, 'cause it went together SO nice, I don't want to puh my luck!

The 1984 lower end fit, but you have to use a newer style waterpump kit, and your old shift lever, since the newer one is about 1/2" too long and slightly squed sideways. Nice easy swap, though!

measure from the lower casing to the center of the hole on shift rod on old lower, then install it on the new lower the same distance. will save a lot of headaches.
