Greetings from Finland!

Johnson 70hp -93:

On the starboard side of each three carbs, there are steel screws (with springs underneath), these are the idle/air adjustment screws. Am I right so far?

There are also one brass screw (orifices?) on the top of each carb. These are also on the starboard side, in the black lid of the carburetor. What is the purpose of these and what would be the right adjustment/method for adjusting? In my case, they're now "lightly seated minus 1/4 turn".

Knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.

-*-Pacillus-*-

Welcome Pacillus

You are correct that the ones with the springs are low speed adjustment needles. They should be 1 turn out from a lightly seated position to start with. The other brass "Screws" are intermediate fuel orifices and should be tight. If you plan on working much on the motor, you really should pick up a Manual that will walk you through the procedures for proper adjustment and settings. Hope this helps...

Thank You very much rickdb1boat, I'll buy you a beer the next time you visit Finland :)

"should be tight" you say. That's the information I was looking for.

And yes, a manual would be a good thing to have. To this point I've managed to set up my new (to me, anyways...) motor by studying the boating forums. Could you instruct me further, are there many different manuals on the market and if so, can you recommend a specific one?

-*-Pacillus-*-

Re: Johnson 70hp -93 carburetor question

There are 3 Manuals that are available. Seloc, Clymers and the Factory Manual. The Factory Manual is best, as it is specific to your motor. I don't know who will ship to you from the USA, but if you head down to the bottom left of this page, iboats sells the generic ones. I don't know if they ship international or not. One place I know of that sells the OEM Manual is kencook.com., but once again, shipping may be a problem. Ebay is a possible source, too...

kencook.com/evinrudejohnsonmanuals/

I did some brief research and the best deal found was to order the Seloc Manual from Germany.

Thanks to Both of You!

Just keep in mind the Seloc is a general manual and may not be very specific for your motor. OE is always the best choice.
