So Im considering rebuilding my 85 70hp and it needs to be bored over and honed. The shop does alot of marine engines as well. They measured closely and found they have to go 4 over which is the maximum. My question is; will this be worth doing since its at the max or should i leave it? They did say that it will be done properly and should last a long time and also will have a bit more power. i have put alot of work into it already and botching it in that sense would be silly, but my only concern is the maximum size in the cylinders if thats too risky. Thanks

I assume by "4" that you're speaking of .040 Oversize. Those cylinders must have some heavy scoring.

Is it worth it?... That must be your judgement call as we are not physically there to do an inspection. Figure your total cost of repairing/restoring the engine against the cost of another engine to help you decide.

We can only wish you luck in your decision.
