Outboard has not been started in two years. I do not know any other history. Good compression of 136. Installed new water pump, new coils, new plugs. Engine started right up with choke and warm-up idle set. Ran smooth for 45 min with warm-up throdle, but would not run at lower idle. Plan on replacing fuel pump. What are the chances that carb needs a good cleaning? Is that a difficult task? What about low idle adjustments? It is a dual carb system. I know I need a manual. Any other advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Roger

Re: johnson '75 50hp won't idle

Throughout last season (I boat every weekend at the cottage) I was having major idle issues with my '72 50 hp 'rude. I rebuilt the carbs myself and guess what? It runs like new. I got a manual and purchased OMC kits for the 2 carbs including float. Took about 3 hours start to finish. As long as you follow the manual, you should not have any problems. Make sure that the throttle and choke butterfy is in perfect sync.

Let me know if you want anymore details. jferreira@kronos.com
