'68 Johnson 85HP V4AL-20A w/electic shift will not crank from the key. Ignition checks good, solenoid checks good, wires from switch to sol have continuity, starter operates when power applied directly to switch terminal on sol. There doesn't seem to be spark either. It was running well until I repaired the wiring harness. The repairs I did might affect its ability to run, but not it's ability to crank. Also, the ignition switch has 12.5v in off, when turned to ON the voltage drops to zero. There is 12.5v at the switch but if I bypass the switch with a jumper it still doesn't crank. Could my starter be the issue?

Re: Johnson 85HP starting trouble

my solenoid only clicks if power is applied directly, no click with ignition
