I just picked up a Johnson 8hp and have a couple of questions. Under the serial number is a "CE" with 96 next to it. Is this a 96 model motor? Also on the tiller, the end of the throttle has a knob that rotates, what is this? Also, is the fuel mixture 50:1 like my '76 evinrude 9.9? Thanks in advance for your help.
Hal

Well, that is a '96 engine, hpeeler. Don't know the significance of the CE 96, though.

Fuel mix is 50:1

Just a guess, but could that knob be for adjusting idle?

That knob sets the idle speed. It can be helpful for trolling. The further it's screwed in, the higer the engine RPMs when it hits the throttle stop. Which is to say it adjusts the idle stop. I don't really find it very helpful and leave it unscrewed all the way normally.
