I just got this boat and he told me about this issue. Well i was looking at the linkage under the housing and all the way up with the shifter shows no more room to go up cause there is this tiny rod that is attached to a clip and it hits a piece of metal while trying to go up. So where do i make the adjustments? During this process do i need to buy gaskets or parts to make this adjustment? Iv searched in here and havent found anything yet with my exact shifting problem. As for year i have no clue it just says 9.5 hp Sea Horse.

the shift adjustment for these motors is (facing the motor) on the front left hand side of the motor(inside the cowling - you'll see it move when you move the shift lever), it will be a little nut, attached to a pin about 1/8th inch in diameter. loosen that nut and you'll be able to adjust your shifting. I am assuming you're throttle is in the idle position and you are able to shift. you won't need to buy any gaskets, but since this motor is new to you, I'd suggest checking the oil in the LU, possibly replacing the impeller.

I wish I had a picture to show you, it'd be so much easier and quicker to show you.
