I have a 74 Johnson 9.9 was running fine for about 10 minutes and the starting cutting out and surging back up. I could pump the primer bulb and keep it running. I rebuilt the fuel pump and installed a new gas tank, fuel line, fuel line ends and primer bulb and tested. It ram a lot better and took about 30 minutes before the same symptoms arose. Tried pumping the primer bulb while still running and it made no difference in performance this time. And was hard starting back up. Any ideas?

Check your spark when it quits. It should jump a 3/8" open air gap on a tester.

Bad components in the ignition system. Let us know what happens.

Thanks for the responses gives me a good idea of things to to check test cuss etc. Been a while since I messed with it.those were the symptoms last time I ran it. Tried to for it up the other day... no dice at all. Easiest first, fuel... starting at the tank started testing. Found the fuel line connection at the quick connect on the motor where it runs to the fuel pump was held on with a zip tie and was leaking replaced the fuel line used a new zip tie (a hose clamp would not go through the hole any ideas on a different way?) Ran fine in a bucket for 30 min or so, will report back on a water test.
