My '97 Johnson 90 SLC keeps blowing the 20amp fuse that is located on the top rear of my engine. Luckily, it does it after I turn the engine off. Something is causing it and I am at a loss. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

What should happen is when you turn the key off it should send the positive power coming from power pack to earth instead of sending it to the coils in other words it gets reversed , what i assume is happening now is that that current is going some where else when you turn it off .

That is very strange. I have seen fuses blow, after you release the ign key from the start position to the run position. So you have the motor running, the fuse is blown, and it stays running, until you turn it off. Then she wont crank after that. Is that what you are seeing?

Doesn't blow every time key is turned off. Went out yesterday, cruised abit, swam around some, decided to fish. Hit various locations, anchored pontoon each time, then came back to dock about 4 hrs later. Went to go out again around 5:30pm and ZILCH! Checked fuse (carry a 10 pack now) and sure enough, that was culpret again!

That particular fuse KILLS everything! Trim, Engine. Of course my elec accessories are separate.

Only one way to solve it is with your meter trace those wires back & forth & test for down to earth .

JW, I had that issue on a similar motor. It turned out to be melted boat harness wires at the gauges (trim gauge harness) and at the Deutch connector on the port side of the motor. You might take a look. You will be looklng for a melted purple wire, and a melted black wire, that are touching.
