First off, like to thank all the previous posts - it have helped me a lot for first time boater. Bro took Johnson on a Maycraft out to sea and started having issues.

I started the flushing with water and it starts right up. Question is any long term damage to engine? Anything I should change out now.

I would change the impeller and thermostats and go from there. If you get another horn, then you may have some problems.

I am sorry for your problems. I once had a 21' Center Console with a great running 1989 Mercury 200 on the back. My brother borrowed the boat from me to take it to the Keys and go diving. We traded boats for the week. His boat had a newer Johnson VRO 115. HE had oil injection......I did not. He took out my boat and blew the engine on the first day. his quote: "I NEVER had to mix gas and oil with mine!"

Started the boat at home with the water hose again last night, started right up. Seems to be a lot of smoke coming out at the propeller, not sure if normal.

Maybe it was still sucking in water through the little hole on the garden hose rubber inlet when I was in the water.

That sounds like good news; however, I would still change the impeller just for peace of mind. If the motor got extremely hot, there is a good chance the rubber impeller was damaged as well. If you change the impeller yourself, the repair would cost less than $100.

OH. Sorry, I forgot. Two stroke motors all smoke a little. The motor vents through the propeller hub. Also, I guess its possible the motor sucked some water through the little hole in the flusher. I would STILL change the impeller.

Will change impeller. Looking good.

You can find a new impeller right here on this website. There is probably not a need to replace the entire water pump assembly (housing and all) just get a replacement impeller and it is most likely good as new.
