Johnson AD-11 - correct motor cover?

I have a 1957 AD-11 Johnson. The engine cover doesn't seem to be the same as others I've seen photos of.

Mine is very worn, but the large "Johnson" decal down both sides is there. The thing that's different is the HP designation. The photos I've seen show *decals* that say "Sea Horse" along with the HP of the motor. On mine, there's a chrome *badge*, kind of a starburst, that has "7 1/2" on it. Is this correct, or has the cover been replaced with a different year's cover somewhere along the line?

Thanks-
Brian

That's it. The color seems to match, and the model is definitely AD-11. Is there a chance Johnson built some of the earliest '57s with old '56 covers? I'm not sure of the serial number (don't have it handy), so I can't confirm that it's an early '57. I'll look into it.

Thanks-
Brian

The '56 had a black twist-grip tiller throttle; the '57's was white. Could a previous owner have switched cowls for some reason?

Mine's got a white one.
I guess my cover's just not the original one.

Brian

Hi G26,
That's not uncommon after nearly 50 years. Someone drops the motor off the tailgate and crunches the hood. The local dealer has a similar hood on the shelf, but not exactly the same. Owner says, I don't care - just want to keep the rain off it and bugs out of it. I've built a motor or two that'll keep someone scratching their heads somewhere down the road. I think there's a Johnny Cash song in there somewhere...
"It's a '49, '50, '51, '52, '53, '54 outboardmotor...."

- Scott
