last weekend I took my 86 skeeter starfire w/ a Johnson gt 150 on it to the lake and when I started across the lake the constant alarm came on. I stopped and looked everything over, made sure my oil line bulb was tight and so on. everything seemed to be in order. i started it back up to head back to the ramp, but this time , no constant alarm just short pulses, and when it's put in gear it bogs down and dies. if you pull the handle out to give it a fast idle it revs fine, only bogs when in gear. is it possible the vro pump is going out ?? I know it is pumping some oil due to the fact the tank is getting lower.. any help would be appriciated

Re: johnson bogging down

Fuel restriction alarm is constant beep at WOT,
then pulsed beep beep is no oil.
Stalling when put into gear is a dead cylinder.

Do a compression test, then get a spark tester from the auto store, set adjustable gap to 7/16th inch. It should jump the gap.

Find the dead cylinder, test that coil, might be burnt.
If you haven't toasted a piston yet, do all the maintainance now, decarb it.
