johnson coils

i heard that coils on my 77 johnson 115 could be defective form the factory.when they heat up my motor dies when it cools it runs fine.a mechanic told me johnson made bad coils and that is my problem.anyone heard this?

I've got a '76 'rude and I'll bet they use the same coil, p/n 581503, and other than age, I haven't had any problems.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

I'm not sure I understand. Bad 1977 factory coils are probably out of warranty.

i was told that the coils were bad and back in the day johnson recalled them and replaced them.i think the mechanic knew what he was talking about,he explained what the bad coils do and thats exacily what my motor was doing<br /> and i think my warranty ran out a month ago.<br /> thanks
