Johnson Controls in 1995 Glastron (exterior vs. interior controls)

Hello,

I have a Johnson 115 hp that was installed on my 95 Glastron 170 ssv 170. Its an older 1981 engine I believe. When they put the Johnston on this boat they put exterior controls on. The switch for the tilt is out but worse than that is that looks horrible and now I have two keys. What are my options for a single lever control similar to what was in the Glastron previously? Teleflex?

BTW. I did get the controls, or whats left of them, from the FORCE motor that was originally on the boat.

This one I can help with.

OMC makes three types of controls:
Side mount
Side mount concealed
Top (or binnacle mount).

Sounds like they used the side mount controls that has the built in key switch (I do not know why you would still have two keys however, unless they left the old system partially hooked up).

My suggestion would be to try and find a set of used side mount concealed controls, and hook them up, using only them, and ONE remote key switch. This will put you as close to OEM as possible.

Yes I am looking at getting a concealed setup with a single handle. The one that they "bolted" up looks just like they bolted it on. I will get a picture that my help me explain. There is a key in the control housing and a key in the dash of the boat. (hence the two keys). To be honest I haven't even got this into the water yet but will as soon as I get back home.

Can someone school me on controls? Why is it not possible to use mercury controls with Johnson controls? Different cable configuration?

Are there any good sources for used controls? ebay?

The ends are different, and they move in opposite directions for throttle.

Are there any good sources for used controls? ebay?

There are usually some on ebay, but IMO they seem kind of expensive.

I don't know if you'd be interested in using a hot foot or not, if that's something you'd consider you could use that along with a billet shifter and a 'turn signal' style trim switch.
