dazed & confused...
3 wires coming out from TnT {bottom of shift/throttle arm} into trim cable connection which has 5 wires, the extra/other two wires are {I take it} are the sending wire and the ground...mine show blk with white stripe and Wht, manaual shows blk with tan stripe and wht with tan stripe, guessing mine have just faded thru out the years{1979 115 V4}...really don't want to be guessing.

Second request... what are and where do the three wires go from the accessory{?} harness which exits the control box below the key ignition? Can't seem to find any info in the manual, but then again I'm cross-eyed from page flipping today...Grn, Blk & Wht?

any help would surely give me a jolt in the right direction...T.I.A.

Re: Johnson controls

OK, self learning is fine, still nice to have someone experienced to chime in, even if it's just to say my questions lack clarity...

I figured out the two wires from question 1 of my op, but the plug-in connector at the rear of the control box is still up for grabs. The manual sez the three conacts are for ground, tach lead and a lead to the accessory terminal of the key switch...according to the manual the colors are supposed to be purple gray & black, mine are black white and green. :confused: < as the manual also states that {at that time anyways} there were {available} 2 different pre-wired plug-in connectors to allow one to quickly plug into your remote control... plug-in kit with fuse block #173611 and instrument wiring kit # 173602...which leaves me scratching my head as to what I have, or how to decipher them... anyone?

Tilt and Trim.

Blue=UP

Red=Common (batt +)

Green=Down.

The other two are for the trim guage.

The other plug, below key is for the tachometer. The placement of the wires is more important, a manual will tell you which one does what according to the connector.

I would GUESS

Black=ground

Green=signal

White=Power.

Easy enough to check with a DVOM.

Re: Johnson controls

Thank you Sir, your guess was correct, even with the fact I wouldn't know a DVOM from the DMV :redface:
