Just bought a used (really used) pontoon boat with a 1972 25 hp Johnson motor on it. Model #25EL72R Serial #E3613138
I always thought that these motors were equipped with a stator that would at least put a bit of a trickle charge back into the battery after the motor was started. Since the pontoon boat does not have lights, I want to at least put navigation and anchor lights on it. Talking with a neighbor, he tells me that absolutely no charge goes back to the battery. When the starter cranks the battery dead, you have to charge it. Is this true?
Thanks in advance
