I have a 1999 Johnson 130 HP that has a hole in the lower unit. I have a 1988 Evinrude 90 HP and a 1985 Evinrude 100 HP unit. Is it possible to swap the drive shaft and shift shaft and use either of these lower units on the 1999 Johnson 130?

Well the part numbers are definitely not he same but I have read of people using the older model gear cases and want some advice from someone that knows more about it than me.

Without ALL of the numbers we can't answer.

It fits... or it doesn't.

pull the proposed donor and compare it to the one you pulled off the 130

I doubt they will work. The difference in 1989 vs 1990 Johnson 150 lower ends is enough to make it not work. You're crossing years, HP and brand labels...

Compare them side by side.----Johnson / Evinrude makes no difference here.------You will have to use the 130 hp shift rod for sure.

It will bolt up to the 130. Best I can tell the 100 HP drive shaft is about 1/4 shorter than the 130. The Splines are the same. The bullet on the 100 is smaller than the 130. I may change out the shift shaft rod and, bolt it up and see. Would I use the specs for measuring the shift shaft for the 130 or 100? Or are they the same?

Thanks Racerone

??---Pretty sure the shift rod from the 130 has to be used on the other units.----And the shift rod height must be set for the 130 of course.
