You guys are a terrific help! I too will be changing my first impeller and would appreciate a few answers- I have a 1978 Star Craft, 105 HP Chrysler engine. The manuel I have is for a Johnson or Evinrude, however, the same years are covered. Will this manuel suffice for directions or do I need the Chrysler manuel? I'm pretty mecanically inclined but a boat motor is all new to me. I'll have my 14 year old son helping with the heavy stuff (I'm female) and have read that some portions of the work require some strong backs-

The boat has been sitting for two years, and prior to that only ran about 14 days out at the lake- I am considering not changing the impeller as it doen't have a lot of time on the boat since it was changed two years ago... Also, I made the mistake of ordering just the impeller, not a whole kit or the thermostat- how important it the whole kit? I will get the thermostat if you guys can convince me to go ahead with this project (I'm not looking forward to it!)

To the gentleman requesting copies... did you ever recieve them? I'll be happy to fax them if I have your contact info.

--------------------
Trasi

:(

Hi, Trasi.

The OMC Manual can give you general ideas, but the details will be different. You need the Chrysler Manual.

Do change the impeller. It's useful life is 2 years, in use or sitting still. The rest of the water pump is good for a lot longer than that so you can probably get by with just changing the impeller.

If you can handle 50lb. you will be okay on the "strongback" issue.

Take the thermostat out and test it in hot water. The procedure is the same as for the OMC t'stats. If it passes, keep it. If not, well, you get the idea.

Really glad to see a woman who doesn't saddle herself with artificial limitations. :)
