My 15 horse Johnson, model FD-10 needs a new propeller shaft seal. I stored the motor on a stand in my garage since the end of the 2011 Minnesota boating season. I drained the gear lube when I put the motor away for the winter. When I went to fill it back up today the great lube just ran out on the floor. When I removed the propeller, I found the seal had move out of its pocket and was loose on the shaft. The propeller shaft shows no wear, but the old seal must have shrunk on the inside as it is not snug around the shaft anymore. The seal appears to be the original one installed from the factor as it has some paint on it that matches the rest of the motor. The seal is brass on the outside and is stamped with the numbers 302 495 and also cr. I went to my local BRP dealer, Hannay's Marine in Minneapolis Minnesota and was told by the parts man that that part number 302495 is no longer available, and that he does not have a suitable alternative part. I also tried Twin City Outboard in Shakopee MN; they did not have the part but did have a used lower unit on the shelf ready to bolt on for sale(only $400). Does anyone know of the correct part for this application? Any ideas will be appreciated.
