The tell-tale stream on my 1989 Johnson GT150 has suddenly stopped putting out a strong stream of water. It drips, instead, although the other cooling water outlet ports seem to be working adequately. Is the tell-tale water stream critical to engine cooling, and how do I best restore the flow? Thanks for your input!

Welcome to the forum!

The telltale is critical in the sence that you do need a visual check so that you know the water pump is working properly.

But is not critical to engine cooling, Because water directed to telltale does not circulate through block.

I would suspect that you have some sorta trash blocking the flow out of telltale.

Pull the rubber hose from telltale and start engine while on the muffs. If water flow is then good the your little plastic nozzel is pluged.

If flow from hose is not good then hose is pluged some place. you will have to remove it and unplug.

I would let motor idel a good 20 to 30 minutes on muffs to see if water is flowing thru block T..stats without overheating.

Good luck!
