On my Johnson 10 hp motor, the motor won't spit water , impeller is fine, poked pee hole with wire, it runs fine, gets warm on shaft , after a few min of idling it shuts off , any ideas??
Hi perchup. If the motor isn't pumping water it either has a bad impeller and/or it is not being run in deep enough water. The vintage 10hp models cannot be run on muffs. Instead, they need to be run in a test tank with water filled to within 1"-2" of the exhaust port on the back of the motor. The vintage models don't have a "pee stream" like modern motors either. Instead, they expel the cooling water along with the exhaust gases out of the back of the motor. Here are some handy links and vids.
