Hi Guys,
I'm getting ready to drop the lower / gearcase on a Johnson I just bought and have a question.
I'm waiting for my manual to come in and I read some manuals on line that I could find, but did see any mention of this.
I'm trying to find any information about what position of the shifter should be set when pulling the lower. On Mercs you need or should shift it forward before pulling the lower or outdrive. Is this the same with the Johnsons?

On another note it sure is funny that these motors will run with all of the corroded wires and fuel leaks. I have a pretty good winter project ahead.

Motor specs:
Johnson
1982 60hp
J60ELCNM

How about that, I found it. I was able to dig up another manual online thanks to the "Secret Files" section and my answer was in there.

"move the shift lever to neutral and verify the lenght of the shaft" per model.

Thanks in advance.

Mark
