johnson lower unit question

replacing water pump impeller in my 1986 7.5hp johnnny.

when i pulled the foot. the drive shaft stayed in the powerhead and the shift shft stayed on the lower.

in all my expeirence they usually both stay on the lower.

is that the case with this little motor?

They should both be in the lower unit.

wow this sucker is really stuck in the power head.

any suggestions on how to get it out.

ok engine is hanging upside down with a can of blaster sitting down at the connection. heated it up 3 times with torch. had a vibrating massager on it for a few hours. will try the hammer and grips tommarow.

any other suggestions?

if i get the shaft out will it go right back in the lower unit just like it pulled out? or will i need to take apart the lower?

what are the chances of the shaft coming out?
