I believe the correct answer is 1973-77 OMC V4s, meaning Evinrude/Johnson 85hp thru 140hp. It's possible some of the newer ones will fit (1978 and up) - I don't think so but I'll leave it to the experts. 1972 & older won't fit, at least without significant modifications, as they are hydro-electric shift.

Hi again, Veno!

Sorry to hear it was the lower unit on your motor, too. My repair place gave me the lower unit to assure a match w/ a used parts place here in the Michigan area. I understood that there were several slightly different models made, and that a verbal match could be difficult.

Be ready to spend ~$1200 for a rebuilt unit. :(

Once I had the rebuilt unit, it only took a day to have it installed, and I got a great chance to see how they are built inside, using the service book as a guide.

Good luck! Hope you get to enjoy a little more water time this year!

Bob

All V4 gearcases from 1973 to 1976 will bolt up. The 1977 20" 85 and 115 will also. All 1977 140's, 85 / 115 25" gearcases and all 1978 V4's and newer will not bolt up.

Good luck!
