OK,OK, I'll try to do better next time. But in the meanwhile here's a couple that are on E-Bay that may fit your year.

LU1

LU2

If it is a 74 it should have the hydro-mech shifting. When you pull up on the shift rod, and turn the long driveshaft clockwise, the propshaft should turn counter clockwise(reverse) The 78 listed above will be the mechanical type, and will shift bacwards from yours. You could try www.tcoutboard.com for one.

Either type will work. Just keep the block mounted shift set up with the lower.

Good luck!

Re: Johnson lower unit

Rick, thanks for the links but I already checked those out, appreciate it though.

Dhadley - I am high bidder right now on the first link rick put up (lower and mid section, blue). Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they made two kinds of linkage starting in 1976 and the wrong one will reverse my gears. (kind of like what "dpminc" states above). I believe I need the long shift rod, would you know the Model/Serial/codes that would tell me what I'm looking for so I can ask this guy before buying it. Thanks.

Re: Johnson lower unit

As dpminc states, the 73 thru 75 and the 76 and newer shift oppsite from each other. On one if you pull up on the shift rod it goes into forward. On the other up is reverse.

Its only a function of linkage. If you keep the powerhead linkage with the lower it will work fine without changing anything else.

If you buy a 1976 or newer unit, have the guy ship the shift linkage also. Very simple. Your control box will work, your cables will work and your prop will work. Weve done it many times.

Good luck!
