I.ve been brought a smallish Johnson to bring back to life but I am having trouble identifying it.My list of model #s is pretty extensive but I cannot find this one/
The # is CD 25R which would seem to indicate a 25hp but it is more like somwhere from 5 to 7.5 or 8.Can anyone help me out please.

That is a 1968 model, Geoff. Either a 5.5 or a 6.

Re: Johnson Model # question

That would be a 6. '64 was the last year of the 5.5 and '65 was the first year of the 5 and the 6. Odd that they would have two models, so close in horsepower like that. The 5 was discontinued in '68 and '69 only had the 6.

Excellent motors though. These all were based on the old 5.5 design and many parts are interchangeable with each other. It'll be worth your efforts to revive it.

Thanks guys.I thought it probably was a 6 but it looks much newer than two other 6's that I have here right now though they are mid 70s.You are right also about it being like the 5.5 too.Ihave it sitting right next to a61 5.5 fisherman and they are almost identical. Thanks again and have great weekend.
